Lucky Street San Francisco Murals and Photos

Lucky Street runs between 24th Street and 26th Street.  It is part of the Calle 24 Latino Cultural District, and in one of the oldest neighborhoods in San Francisco called the Mission District.  The Mission name was derived from Mission San Francisco de Asís, built in 1776 by the Spanish.  The way Lucky Street got its name isn't precisely known. Likely, it was the perfect name for a street where city planners and developers became lucky they could divide a block, providing rear access for homes and allowing for more homes to be built.  Dividing Folsom and Treat Streets. The lineage of streets similar to Lucky Street in the area that provide alley access are Poplar, Orange, Osage, Lillac, Cypress, Virgil, Horace, and then LUCKY STREET, from West to East.  The final street in the series is Balmy Alley.
